About the Author
Cliff Van Eaton is a well-known writer on beekeeping subjects and is co-author of two books on bee diseases used by beekeepers in New Zealand and overseas. For over 30 years he worked as a beekeeping adviser and consultant in New Zealand, and has also assisted beekeepers in countries as diverse as the Solomon Islands, Uruguay and Vietnam.

Finally a book on manuka honey that explains not only its (brief) history but also how it actually works. Reads well, too. The author is a recognised New Zealand bee authority so it could hardly been written by a better candidate.

About the Author

Steve Chader contributed to both The Millionaire Real Estate Agent and The Millionaire Real Estate Investor. He has been investing in real estate since the 1970s with his father and grandfather as his first partners. Since then, Steve' has partnered with Jennice Doty to build a thriving real estate investment business with both residential and commercial income properties.
Jennice Doty, co-author of HOLD, has been in the real estate industry since 1979. Together with investment partner Steve Chader, Jennice has built a successful career, providing management services for more than 1,000 residential homes and 35 commercial properties.
Launching a longstanding career in real estate investing was not what Jim McKissack, HOLD co-author, had in mind when he and Linda―his wife and investment partner―bought their first investment property in 1991. The first investment was far from successful, but taught them many lessons, which they used to make the property cash flow. Today, Jim and Linda head a real estate enterprise that encompasses 79 single-family homes, 6 commercial buildings, 2 multifamily structures, 6 vacation rental cabins and 5 real estate franchises spanning three states, all with an annual cash flow of more than $1 million.
Linda McKissack is a Realtor, entrepreneur, author, and public speaker who began her real estate career in the 1980s. A lot of book for so little information.

This is one of many books that is about real estate investing. Although well written it is not jam-packed with information. So many times successful authors really connect with a great book, then they do a follow up book hoping to have repeat success. This book is one of those types of books The author takes a short subject and stretches it into a book. In fact, I believe this is one of three books in this series. This book uses a lot of paper to give you a little bit of information. Here is the book in a nutshell...You make money when you buy property not when you sell it... So hold it!

This book is simple and something you can implement immediately. Most investment books give you a PHD but you never implement it, so what good is that. Implementation is 80% of the challenge especially with investing. It's easy to follow and understand from the investor who is starting today for the first time, to the sophisticated investor of many years. You don't need all the bells and whistles you need something simple and something that you can use and implement right NOW. I've been an investor for 30 years and a Broker/Agent and this is the E-ticket for investing in Real Estate. It's something you can wrap your head around immediately. You can tell the people who wrote this book have done it themselves and they’re not just talking about it to sell books. That’s very refreshing to see in today's world of Real Estate investing.

Great book for the library

If you are interested in this kind of real estate investment than this book is great. I would not call it all encompassing though, it is definitely lacking in some areas, but it still has great tips and information for beginners. I would say it focus more on the financial side then the day to day practices, but it does explain the financial really well. Like I said add it to the library but don't rely solely on it.

About the Author

William J. Germann studied chemistry as an undergraduate at Kenyon College and went on to earn a Ph.D. in physiology at the University of Michigan. Among other biology courses, Bill currently teaches three undergraduate human physiology courses at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Part of his work at the University consists of advising pre-medical students. Bill was recently appointed chair of the Biology Department. He is a member of the Biophysical Society, the American Association of University Professors, and the Texas Association of Advisors for Health Professions.

Cindy L. Stanfield earned both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Physiology at the University of California at Davis. She teaches physiology to undergraduates at the University of South Alabama, where she has published numerous papers in neurophysiology. Cindy is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Pain Society, Sigma Xi, and the Golden Key Honor Society.

Easily the best

Ignore what your classmates, kaplan, PASS and the professor say - skip the terribly mediocre and incomprehensible Guyton and Berne and Levy and pick Germann up. This is EASILY the best physio book out there. The software package alone will get you through the toughest of concepts. This is one of the best-written textbooks on any subject out there and it makes learning about the human body, with its fantastic images and awesome explanations, fun and memorable.

Wanna understand human body functions?

Great book to read for better understanding of human body functions. There are good and colorful illustrations in it. Through the guided illustrations and simplified physiological explanations, it makes easier to connect the function of one part of the body to the other.
Well I made good grade on my exam in anatomy and physiology anyhow ... so I can say that this book helped me a lot.

Very Helpful for CTEL

I promised myself I would post a review after receiving my CTEL exam scores. After being out of teaching for almost 20 years, I passed all three sections! Not easy. I studied and stressed quite a bit, but this book was a huge part of my results. For Module 1 study chapters 1-3, for Module 2 chapters 4-7 (Part 1 chapters 4-5, Part 2 chapters 6-7), for Module 3 chapters 8-10. Flash cards from Quizlet and videos from various places were also helpful. Taking all three tests on the same day would have been a bad idea. If you can, space them out over three days.The book is expensive, but I didn't need to purchase anything else. Unless you are already familiar with all of the terminology and best practices, don't wait to get started studying. Good luck!

Just as good as newer version

I'm using this to supplement my first grade homeschool curriculum. It goes in our "morning basket" as a read aloud book that I read to my daughter a few pages each morning. I like that it's broken into different sections (literature, history, math) and lays out the basics that are reasonable to call "common knowledge" for a first grader. However, I find the easiest way for us to use the book is to simply read aloud straight through (skipping the adult teaching sections).

This book made homeschooling a lot less intimidating

I really like this book. It has been extremely helpful in planning our homeschool curriculum this year. I use many other resources in addition to this, but it gives a very nice setup as far as the goals that you should be setting for the year. It also has plenty of examples and stories to read. I will be buying every year of this series for the future. I feel so much more confident about homeschooling now that I found these books.

An amazing and moving true story of WWII

How often do you have trouble reading the last page of an action packed war story because of the blur of tears? First time for me, as I finished Adam Makos new book A Higher Call.
After eight years of painstaking research, Makos has produced a singular piece of work: the true and incredible story of two pilots who locked eyes--and I feel locked souls--across a span of deadly sky over Nazi Germany in 1943, changing the fortunes and the futures of all who were there.
Adam Makos provides us a close-up of the American experience, before during and after this incident. But he also, and in marvelously rich detail, gives us a rare look into the machinations of the Luftwaffe, again, before the war and through to the very end.
.... Engines failed, damage was extensive to flight surfaces, yet under the strong hands of their young pilot, Charlie Brown, the ship remained precariously in the air. Back in the plane's fuselage the crew was bravely caring for each other--some with grievous wounds. As they approached the European coastline, Charlie knew that any moment the coastal flak guns would open up and finish them off.
Suddenly, from behind and below them a FW-109 climbed up from the treetops and began its attack run on the helpless Pub. With all guns frozen the crew could only watch with the resignation of pending death. At the controls of the 109, Franz Stigler, an experienced ace saw the target that would raise his "kill" count. But he didn't kill. I will not herein tell you what transpired in the minds of the American airman or the German pilot. It is something you must read for yourself and let it sink in to your soul, as I did.

Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler survived the war. There was no official mention of Stigler's saving Ye Olde Pub in American records. In Germany, he could say nothing and hope no one recognized his plane from the ground--or it would be a firing squad for him.
The story of their meeting decades later and the ability to share the personal feelings of all who were touched by the incident near Christmas 1943 over Germany. Here's where I began to tear up.
Adam Makos has brought us an action packed adventure story. But he has done it through the eyes, souls, fears, and personal travails of both the Germans and the Americans. Yes it's a war story, but more than that it's a warriors' story--humanized but not trivialized like we've never seen before. Vicious and deadly battle could not snuff chivalry and a higher call. It's is so good to be reminded of this through a real life story.

GREAT Read!

I loved this book.

I thought I knew the premise of the story before downloading it, but by the end of the first few chapters I realized this was so much more then the brief first encounter of the main characters. It's a story of two young men, on opposites sides of the war, sharing the same experiences- fighting to keep sane and survive the horrors of WWII.

You are introduced to Franz (the German pilot) first and then Charlie's story (the American pilot) is intertwined later on. There is no way to read Franz's portion without being in awe of what he survived-multiple bail outs, crashes, and over 480 missions. Being introduced to Franz first makes his run-in with Charlie's plane all the more remarkable - here was this battle-hardened pilot who showed unbelievable compassion, knowing if he were caught it would mean his own life.

The authors do a fantastic job of seamlessly moving between the characters and you get so attached to them that I found myself hesitating when turning the pages because I wanted the ones I liked to live a bit longer. I finished it hours ago, but I know I'm going to reread my favorite chapters before bed tonight!

A story to make you believe in people (spoilers)

A Higher Call is mostly the story of Franz Stigler, an ace WWII German fighter pilot who came upon a heavily damaged and helpless American B-17 bomber struggling to return to England. Stigler could have easily shot down the bomber and it's crew, but instead he escorted them past an anti-aircraft battery and flew along side them for a while out over the North Sea. Stigler knew he would be court-martialed if anyone found out what he had done. For years he wondered if the bomber had made it home safely and he wondered, "Was it worth it?". It took 46 years for Stigler to find out that the bomber did return home safely and to finally meet the American bomber pilot, Charlie Brown.

Author Adam Makos provides all the descriptions of battle, dog-fighting and heroism you would expect in a book of this nature but he really focuses on the human side, on the losses. Character after character are introduced only to die. The story of one young German flier is heartbreaking. In the last days of the war he told Stigler that he was going to return home, surrender and that he hoped to study engineering. Stigler asked if he wanted to take just one flight in an Me-262, the world's first operational jet fighter. The boy said yes. Since American bombing had stopped two days before, Stigler thought it would be a safe, quick flight, but the jet's engines cut out and the plane went down. Stigler raced to the crash sight and was able to arrive in time for the boy to ask Stigler to say goodbye to his mother and sister for him. The boy died in Stigler's arms. So many wasted lives.

While the description of Stigler escorting the bomber to safety is moving, the scene that meant the most to me was at a veterans reunion where Charlie Brown introduced Stigler to two of the crewmen who had been onboard the bomber that Stigler spared. As the four men hugged and cried they were joined by the descendants of the American fliers -- people who owed their lives to the act of generosity and kindness shown by Franz Stigler. Stigler and Brown remained close friends until their deaths, both in 2008.

It took 46 years for Stigler to get an answer to the question that had haunted him for so long. Yes, it was worth it.
