Tara Publishing, a commune of artists, writers and designers producing handmade books in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, have created a glowingly mysterious and charming volume that combines mythology from central India's Gond tribe with illustrations from three renowned Gond artists who will appear at museums in several U.S. cities this year. Hand screened onto black paper, the colorful, intricately detailed illustrations are almost psychedelic, in some ways reminiscent of Australian Aboriginal drawings. But the forms are recognizably Indian, and despite stylistic differences among the three artists, the pictures reveal a strong and unique Gond artistic tradition where animals, insects and humans merge with and emerge from the trees. There are magical stories about the protective spirits of the Sambar tree, and the serpent and root-entwined snake goddesses holding the earth together. But the practical uses of trees figure here as well: the wood of the thorny Nagphani tree is hard enough to use as a crowbar, and its sap heals sore eyes; the Ganja (marijuana) bush and the Mahua (alcohol) tree are said to be husband and wife. This mingling of the mythic, mundane and poetic gives an alluring glimpse into an integrative worldview that's in poignant contrast to the fragmented postmodern world. About the Author
Durga Bai is a young woman tribal artist from the Gond tradition of central India. Gond is a ritual and functional art style with distinctive decorative elements, mostly painted on walls of houses, using natural colours. Durga Bai constantly re-works and pushes the borders of the Gond art form to create art that sparkles with a distinctive energy. Bhajju Shyam, of the acclaimed The Night Life of Trees, is the finest living artist of the Gond tribe in India. Intricate and colourful, Bhajju's work is well-known throughout India and has been exhibited in the UK, Germany, Holland and Russia. From the walls of his tribal village home to international acclaim, Bhajju's has been an incredible creative journey. Ram Singh Urveti, an artist from central India, is one of the most brilliant living artists of the Gond tradition. Ram Singh's work has spread the myths and stories of the Gond community throughout Asia, Europe, Australia, and South America and has won him awards nationally and internationally. His work creates a world of fantasy and metamorphosis, coming alive with finely detailed organic forms.

An amazing book for art lovers...

I first saw this book at a local bookstore, which quickly sold out before I could get a copy. This book is a unique collection of the silkscreen prints of three separate artists from the same cultural tradition in India. Every image depicts a tree and is accompanied by a short myth about the creation or transformation of that tree. The art style is tribal, using intricate patterns of dots and lines. If you are a fan of tribal art styles and mythology, you will treasure this book for a long time to come. I would hesitate to recommend the book as a children's book for children under a certain age to more conservative parents, given references to suicide and drug use, in particular marijuana and alcohol.

On the whole, however, I found this to be an amazing and incredibly beautiful book. I look at it and read it often. The computer images do not do justice to the rich color and texture of the images.

Beautiful and unique.

This has got to be one of the most unique and unusual books I have ever owned. It brings together two of my favorite things: art and trees. Each page of art in this book is hand silk screened on heavy black paper. Once the pages are silk screened, they are bound together in a very appealing binding. The prints depict trees from India, along with a bit of the history and folk lore associated with each particular tree. This book is a numbered edition of only 2,000 copies. You can see how it was created by going to You Tube and typing in "tara books". Definitely a small scale, local operation. The artists are amazing. And the price is very inexpensive for a book of hand printed silk screened prints.

my new favourite thing in the world - this book is a treasure - a delight to hold, touch and be immersed in - be captivated by its stunning use of colour, gorgeous illustrations and poignant tales. I only bought this book because I read a review on Amazon - it was beyond my expectations. I show this book to all my close friends.

Can I Give This More Stars?!

I really do like Amazon's rating system but can we change the system for this book? The Magnetic Mindset is worth so many more stars than just five. Based on the book's merits of being well written and helpful it should get the five stars, but when you factor in the fact that the book can literally change someone's life overnight, you have to rate it more highly. Since I can't though, I will just give it the good review that it deserves and tell everyone I know about it. This book is very well written and is divided into 365 days that will help the reader keep track of where they are and also see what they have gone through to get there. The inspirational quotes are empowering and with each quote you get a back story of sorts to help you better understand the quote and see how it can affect your daily life. I have seen many books that would only give the reader some quotes and let them decide what it means. I don't really have the time for that in my busy life so to have them analyzed and made more understandable is a bonus. The author has given us a gift with this book and we can thank her by reading it and letting it show us how to make a change in our lives.

The basic of concept of "The Magnetic Mindset: 365 Ways To Attract Abundance" is that you can control your environment by changing your perspective. It seems simple on the surface, but day to day it's easy to lose focus.

That's where the Magnetic Mindset comes in. Inspirational quotes from people such as Lincoln, Churchill and others help to provide daily affirmations. As the book suggests, instead of thinking "I'm broke." think to yourself, "I have enough money for what I need". Once you change your outlook, you empower yourself to have more financial security. Grade 6 Up What on the surface appears to be just another medieval fantasy peopled with animals enacting the fight to the death between good and evil is actually a rich and thought-provoking novel on the nature of good and evil. The peaceful life of the mice of Redwall Abbey is shattered by the onslaught of the fierce rat, Cluny the Scourge, and his army of rats, weasels, and other vermin. The mice and the other peaceful animals take refuge in the Abbey's strong walls while Cluny lays seige. Advantage is with the besieged (as long as food and supplies last), and the Abbey defenders are able to withstand numerous attacks. Cluny cannot be completely defeated, however, until the sword of Martin, the legendary warrior who founded Redwall Abbey, can be found. A young novice, Matthias, embarks on a quest and ultimately finds it, but a wise cat reminds him that it is just a sword. It attained its legendary status because Martin used it only in the defense of right and good. Just as Martin's sword is neither good nor evil, the characters avoid being simply personifications of attributes. The defenders, even Matthias, have faults, while even Cluny displays characteristics which make him not likable, but at least deserving of a grudging admiration. The book is violent, and at some times downright gruesome, but the quality of the writing, the rich cast of characters, the detailed accounts of medieval warfare, and Jacques' ability to tell a good story and make readers think all earn Redwall a place on library shelves. Our family loved the Redwall series back in the 1990s

I bought the first 3 books in the series as a gift to a friend for to read with her grand kids.

Our family loved the Redwall series back in the 1990s. We started in about 2nd or 3rd grade as read-to books. Very imaginative characters. This is a great way to learn about Medieval times using personification of animals as the characters. Great vocabulary builder. Soon became read alone books for my son, but we still enjoyed reading aloud together as a family due to the engaging story and memorable characters who move forward into the next book. (Violence refers to battles of animal groups - done with a Medieval Times theme.)

Redwall is the first volume in a series of 15 books that Brian Jacques wrote for a group of orphaned blind children in Liverpool, England that was fortuitously published. It is stated to be for a youthful audience, but it is my experience that it holds charm for all ages. It is beautifully written, well constructed and the tale delightfully resolves so that the reader comes away pleased and reassured that the time was well spent reading the book.

The world of Redwall is good and caring, the way we would want the world to be if we could have an environment where those around us cared for the well-being of each other and those who were evil were well defined and doomed for defeat. The characters in Redwall are forest creatures from a mythical and medieval time. The scenes are set in an abbey and a forest. From there we are invited to follow the machinations of those who live in Redwall Abbey and those who try to destroy the tranquil life of those who inhabit the abbey.

I used the book with advanced non-native speakers for the charm of the book, the fast-paced plot and the delight of both the the characters and the well-written language. I question whether this series will go down as classical literature, but as Dickens has made his mark on English literature, I suspect that Jacques may well find his place in English literature also. There is also a video series on YouTube that makes it easier for students to follow the flow of the story should they wish to use it. t

Children find the story engaging; my students were equally delighted with the novel and I was pleased to find something that kept the interest of my students as well as building their vocabulary base.

Great for gifted 4th and 5th graders

These were just coming out when I was a kid of that age and everyone loved them. As a college student, all my friends read these as kids and loved them. Then around mid-high school we all went back and read them for another familiar happy re-read and realized they are really terrible - cliche, terrible writing, fake drama. But kids LOVE them. So it's not good for read aloud as adults will lose their minds. But so meaningful and fun for kids. You do need to be a good reader/book lover for them as many of the characters have accents or dialects that are phonetically spelled with lots of apostrophes and such. This tripped up my brother at a young age. Also you should be able to skim or else kids may get bored with long descriptions of scenery and food unless they are into that.

Revision of Scent of Roses

I read the Scent of Roses earlier but their are changes from the earlier story. I enjoyed this one just as much even there were some similar parts in the book.
Lady Felice Sutton agrees to marry Lord Christopher to save her father from losing everything due to his debts. Lord Christopher had buried his first wife and child in a paupers grave. He was known as a ruthless lord. Felice was determined to be a good wife but was hurt on to his visits to his peasant mistress. He would go at night to her and then return to Felice's bed. The mistress dies and he blames Felice to poisoning her. He banishes her to one of his estates till he decides if she is guilty or not. He will hang her if she is.
He sends her to a manor that is rundown had not been lived in for ten years. He is not aware of the condition of the house. He is also not aware also that the plague has taken over the village where she is gone. Is she going to survive where everybody else is dying. Is Lord Christopher going to find out the truth about her and regret what he did to her? You can get this book with kindle unlimited but I prefer to buy her books. You should try this author I have read all she has listed except. I think three .The books were not written in that period of time. I hope another book will be out soon.

Really wonderful and charming

This was so good. It was funny, sweet, deep-cutting and overall just way better than I had any right to expect. I was upset by how soon I finished it because I just really wish there was more!!! But as much as I could wish for a longer series, I feel like it might risk sacrificing a lot of the stuff that made me love this book. So I'm really happy it's the way it is, and I know I'll keep revisiting and thinking about these characters in my head for a while hopefully :)

Also just as an aside the art was totally beautiful and the way some really intense scenes were conveyed (like transformation sequences and big plot scenes) was really terrific and I got a great sense for how the characters acted and moved and how that related to who they were.

One of the first graphic novels I've read (except for Disney comic books) and I loved it!

The story is great, with a nice pace and plenty of action, humour, adventure, twists and turns. Nimona, Ballister Blackwell and sir Ambrosius Goldenloin (best name ever!) are well-developed characters with real depth and flaws. I feel like I really got to know them.

I could say a lot more, but you should just go read it. It's good. It's different.

The world is fun and out there, the character more complex than you thought at first glance. It has a sweet ending that I think diverges just right from the norm you see elsewhere. Susan Tyler Eastman is a professor in the Department of Telecommunications at Indiana University. She earned her BA from the University of California, her MA from San Francisco State University, and her PhD from Bowling Green State University.

Douglas A. Ferguson is Professor and Program Director of the Graduate Certificate Program in the Department of Communication, College of Charleston. He also served as editor-elect of the JOURNAL OF RADIO STUDIES from 2005 through 2008. Dr. Ferguson earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the Ohio State University and his doctorate from Bowling Green State University.

Very Informative!

This textbook provides a thorough overview of the field of broadcast/cable programming. Industry terms are clearly defined and incorporated into the description of the various topics covered. The book is divided into easily identifiable cataegories, which assists in digesting the material.
It's appropriate that a book of this nature start with a discussion of the central theme, in this case programming. That is done quite well in the first chapter. The constraints unique to the broadcasting industry are at the core of the industry and are addressed in that manner.
Audience research is essential to professional program executives doing their work well. That's the topic of the second chapter. Again, industry terminology is explained.
Numerous broadcast experts had their insight to the various issues throughout the book. There is a diversity of perspectives presented. Various organizational structures are included. Radio, television, cable, national, local, and non-profit are all part of the mix. This book is an excellent overview for readers seeking to be introduced to the subject matter.

Excellent Primer on Narrative Therapy

A wonderful introduction to this WONDERFUL approach.

This book is written simply and clearly, and provides the basic principles of Narrative work. I would suggest starting here and moving on to Michael White... but even if you choose not to read on, I'm sure you'll find yourself using these techniques in some way or another. At very least, you'll start to think differently about the ways in which we story our lives.

About the Author

Bob Bowers is CEO of Soliant Consulting, a 50-person firm that specializes in custom

database and web application development. He is a recipient of the FileMaker Excellence

Award and has co-authored seven books on FileMaker Pro development. In 2008 he was

inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. After graduating summa

cum laude in Music and English from Wabash College, Bob earned a master’s degree in

Musicology from the University of Chicago. Bob is also a proud dad of two young children,

an avid banjo player, and an accomplished woodworker.

 

Dawn Heady, a Senior Technical Project Lead for Soliant Consulting, has 20-plus years of

FileMaker solution architecting experience during which time she’s also been a successful

business owner, served as a CIO in the credit restoration industry, and as Vice President of

a company specializing in FileMaker plug-ins. She is an authorized FileMaker Training

Series instructor, a regular speaker at the annual FileMaker Developer Conference and

FileMaker webinars, and a contributor to the FileMaker Newsletter. In 2004 FileMaker

selected Dawn as a FileMaker 7 Idol finalist for her Interface-RAD solution. Dawn is an

Steve Lane, Chief Technology Officer of Soliant Consulting, served as Special Projects

Developer at Scott Foreman, a leading K–6 Educational publisher. He has written for

classes in FileMaker technologies all over the country and is authorized to teach the

Scott Love, Chief Operating Officer of Soliant Consulting, served at Ziff-Davis Interactive

as an online managing editor, served at Apple Computer as its web publishing technology

evangelist, and led the technical marketing team at Macromedia. He has written dozens

of feature and review articles on database and Internet/web topics for a wide range of

computer publications including MacWorld magazine and FileMaker Advisor. He has coauthored

FileMaker 8 Functions and Scripts Desk Reference, and FileMaker 9 Developer Reference. He is

also the producer for Grem Legends, an arcade game on the iOS App Store, and has written

a technical brief on FileMaker Go. He is an authorized FileMaker Training Series

instructor and a regular speaker at the FileMaker Developer Conference. In 2006 he was

awarded the FileMaker Excellence Award “for developing outstanding technical and training

resources for FileMaker.” Scott lives in the California Bay Area, where his penchant for

gardening can be indulged year round.

Essential for any FileMaker developer

This reference is full of useful information organized in a way that it is easy to find and use. Believe it or not, this volume is better than the previous developer reference for FM version 9. This book is essential for any serious FileMaker developer. My only regret is that the binding doesn't allow the book to lay flat on a desk. It really takes two hands to thumb through the pages. I just wish it could lay flat on the desk and allow my hands to do FM development on the keyboard.

I am an intermediate developer. That means I can 'get the job done' but not as efficiently if I knew a few 'tips and tricks'. This book is fantastic. It presents some pretty basic stuff, (like what is a layout) but also goes into intermediate topics like creating multi table relationships between table occurrences.

This book is 'new best friend' when I need a FMaker reference.

Still A Favorite

I first read this book 4 years ago just seeking a good read, not knowing who P.B.Wilson was. I did not expect the blessings that I received after reading Knight in Shining Armor. Wilson really opened my eyes, allowing me to look within myself instead of depending on a man to solve my life problems.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely have a desire for marriage and want a God-fearing man to take my hand for that long walk while here on this Earth. However, the one thing many women fail to realize is that Jesus is our first love. Initially, I didn't understand what that meant. After reading this book, the dust was cleared. I'm a better woman now that I've made my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ #1 in my life.

Knight in Shining Armor truly is a book for every woman because it speaks of more than how to prepare for a spiritual partner, but of how to love Jesus first. Seek Him and He will take care of the rest. It's that simple.

I encourage any woman who is feeling lonely, frustrated in the dating game, soon to be married, getting divorced, or compromised spiritually to read this book for your own awakening. I'm sure that after your 6 month commitment, you, too, will be spiritually refreshed and abundantly blessed!!

Single and Waiting on your Knight.

I highly recommend this book to every woman who's desire to be married. First married to God and then to their mate. This book really open my eyes on things to look for in a mate and the signs of an imitator. God is so good and he will not allow us to be ignorant of Satan tricks, plots and schemes. I'd purchased this book over 7 years ago and shortly after I purchased the book, I broke up with my ex-boyfriend. I was tired of living in sin and I knew God had much more for me. It was in 2007, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to read the book again and everything I read in the is what I'm currently still practicing. Is been over 6 years since I read the book and I'm still waiting on my Knight in Shining Amour. I'm building a greater relationship with the Lord and I'm learning to love me. I know it was the Holy Spirit who inspired P.B. Wilson to write this book and I Thank God for the gift of Exhortation. Even though I'm still single and practicing celibacy, I know, No good thing will God with hold from me if I continue to walk up right before him.
